University Library Strategic Plan 2016-2020

  • The University Library Strategic Plan 2016-2020 presents six programs to advance the University’s strategic vision and goals, and to create a culture of research excellence, develop a distinctive Sydney education and grow a university culture built on our values.

  • The University Library Digitisation Plan 2016-2020 provides a framework for the digitisation of library resources to make it accessible to the wider university research and student community.

University of Sydney (Library) Rule 2011

  • The University of Sydney (Library) Rule 2011 provides the conditions for use of library resources, the terms on which library resources may be borrowed and the circumstances in which fees and charges may be incurred.

Customer Service Charter

  • The Customer Service Charter describes who we are as a library and how we deliver our services. It also outlines our expectations of client behaviour along with measures on how we will meet our service standards.

Community Access to the Library Resolution

  • The Academic Board of the University of Sydney endorsed the following resolution (no.170/05) at its meeting of 15 June 2005:

Use of the University Library collections, facilities and services should be available to anyone who abides by University regulations and who has a legitimate learning or research need. Access to some collections, services and facilities may be restricted to University of Sydney staff and students to ensure that they are not disadvantaged by demand from other users. The University Librarian will be responsible, in accordance with the University of Sydney By-law 1999 (as amended), for determining access conditions which may be varied from time to time.

  • The Gifts guide details our conditions of acceptance, tax deductions that may be applicable and information on how to make a donation.

Food and drink in Library spaces

  • While you’re free to have non-alcoholic drinks and food in our libraries, please remember to always throw out your rubbish in the bins provided and leave the area clean. While you’re studying, you can take a break, reheat your food or grab a snack in the student kitchens in some of our libraries. Please keep all hot foods in the student kitchen areas, as they can’t be eaten in other parts of the libraries. You can enjoy food delivery or takeaway outside our libraries, and the USU provides dining services and seating across the University for you to use.
  • Food and drink are not permitted in the following areas:
    • Rare Books and Special Collections
    • Near exhibition showcases
    • Near equipment such as computers, printers, photocopiers, audio-visual equipment, etc.
    • Any other spaces designated as a no-food area
  • Please work with the Library staff to protect the Library collection and facilities for the comfort of all visitors by:
    • Keeping the lid on your drink container while moving around the Library
    • Cleaning up small spills and alerting Library staff immediately about larger spills so cleaning can be arranged
    • Disposing of empty containers in non-paper recycling bins
