Djamila Hacene

Djamila Hacene looks after the “people portfolio” of the Library, which includes recruitment, professional development and internal communications. She works closely with the executive team to develop and maintain workforce planning and communication frameworks to ensure the Library is able to deliver its strategic and operational functions.

Djamila has extensive career experience in libraries and the museum sector. She worked in human resources and circulation at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Library from 1992 to 2000, the Powerhouse Museum from 2001 to 2008, and then returned to UNSW as Planning, Policy and Development Officer until 2019.

In her role at the University of Sydney Library, Djamila’s focus is on staff training and development, customer service, internal communication and engagement. She sees these areas as vital to the achievement of the Library’s goals, because “without talented staff and great communication, we would not be successful.”
