The Discourses and demonstrations on two new sciences is Galileo's last work. It was written while he was under house arrest at Arcetri outside Florence. The manuscript was smuggled out of Italy and published in Leiden in The Netherlands. It is the first important work of modern physics, spelling out Galileo's mature views on the nature of motion. The two sciences discussed are projectile motion and the strength of materials.
